I Basic Doctrines

1. The Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired, without error, complete, and the highest authority for faith and life.

2. Scripture reveals the living triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

3. The one true God is infinite in knowledge, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, truth, and love, and is the creator and sustainer of all things.

4. The Lord Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary; he is sinless in nature and in life.

5. The Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, rose bodily on the third day, ascended to the Father’s right hand, and now intercedes for us.

6. The Lord Jesus Christ will personally return to receive his own and establish his kingdom.

7. The dead will be raised; the saved will enjoy eternal life, and the guilty will face judgment and eternal punishment.

8. All people are sinners, fallen by nature and by choice, and unable to save themselves.

9. Salvation is by God’s free grace, through the blood of Christ, and received by faith in the Lord Jesus.

10. Only those who are born again can enter God’s kingdom; regeneration is the work of the Holy Spirit.

11. Those who repent and believe the gospel of Christ receive forgiveness, redemption, and justification before God.

12. Every believer’s salvation is eternal; the indwelling Holy Spirit empowers a life that pleases God.

13. Christ’s lordship over believers includes the whole person, gifts, time, money, and possessions.

14. Those who repent and trust in Christ are baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ, the church.

15. God elects according to his sovereignty, yet people are responsible before him; the gospel is offered to all who are willing.

16. Christians are not of the world, yet must submit to lawful authority and do good to others.

17. Scripture teaches the personality, power, malice, and final end of the devil.

II Principles and Practice of the Local Church

1. The Foundation of the Local Church

The Lord Jesus Christ is the only and sufficient foundation for the local church and its testimony.

The local church gathers only in the name of Jesus Christ, owns him as Lord, and experiences his presence.

3

2. The Power of the Local Church

Prayer is vital to the life, service, and testimony of both individual believers and the local church.

4

3. The Fellowship of the Local Church

Local church fellowship is for born-again believers and includes responsibility and church discipline.

God’s people should use biblical and equal names such as believers, brothers and sisters, Christians, and saints.

5

4. The Lord’s Ordinances

The Lord’s Supper remembers Jesus Christ and proclaims his death, burial, and resurrection until he comes.

Believer’s baptism identifies a believer with the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection, and expresses a desire to walk in newness of life.

6

5. Leadership in the Local Church

The local church is cared for by elders or overseers who meet biblical qualifications, are appointed by the Holy Spirit, and are recognized by believers.

Deacons and deaconesses are appointed by the elders to care for material, financial, administrative, and practical needs.

Full-time workers should be clear about God’s calling, be recognized by the church, and devote themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word.

7

6. Gifts in the Local Church

God gives believers various gifts to equip the saints, serve the Lord, and build up the body of Christ.

Spiritual gifts include teaching, shepherding, sharing, helping, evangelism, hospitality, faith, intercession, missions, leadership, administration, mercy, and service.

Pastors and teachers are given by God to equip and prepare the saints for ministry.

8

7. The Responsibilities of Believers

Each local church is directly responsible to the Lord himself.

All Christians should take part in the work of the gospel and actively introduce Christ to others.

Believers should hold the truth in love and serve both believers and unbelievers with sacrificial love.

Believers should support God’s work through regular, willing, and sacrificial giving.

Believers should not be idle or unfruitful, but should always abound in the work of the Lord.

Christian women make a valuable contribution to the church and its ministries.

In church gatherings, sisters cover their heads as a sign of accepting God’s order in the local church.

8. The Priesthood of All Believers

Every believer is a holy priest and a royal priest who proclaims Christ.

All believers are priests; this church does not recognize a priestly class or divide believers into laity and clergy.
